New Century Production aims to support the growth of the Arab film market through a constant stream of
high-quality professional productions that captivate the interests of both Arab and foreign audiences,
introducing new collaborations between young filmmakers, celebrities and veteran industry professionals and
cinema auteurs.
New Century is the production arm of Dollar Film for distribution that was first founded in 1949 and became
a major film distribution company at that time. Dollar Film is one of a few incorporations that survived in
the market up till now.
In 2005, the company kicked off the Egyptian film market with El Hasa el Sabaa (The Seventh Sense)
introducing young star Ahmed Mekky as a director, long before his large success as an actor. The Seventh
Sense was also the first film starring Ahmad Al Fishawy.
Similarly, New Century introduced screenwriter Mohamed Diab and director Mohamed Gomaa through producing
Ahlam Haqiqiya (Real Dreams) in 2007, as well as film director Mohamed Hamdy through producing El-Moshtabah
(The Suspect) in 2009. The company also introduced Sameh Hussein in his first major acting role in February
30, which was released during Eid al-Adha in 2012. February 30 also introduced screenwriter Salah El Gehiny.
New Century produced Khaled Diab's debut feature Talq Senaee (Induced Labor) in 2018. The film world
premiered at the 2017 Dubai International Film Festival and opened the 2018 Malmö Arab Film Festival in
Sweden.
Along with its support to young filmmakers, New Century has also collaborated with many distinguished
directors, such as Yousry Nasrallah in his film Baad el Mawkeaa (After the Battle), the first feature film
to shed light on the 2011 Egyptian revolution and was the first Egyptian film to be officially selected at
the Cannes Film Festival after a 15 year hiatus. The company also produced Daoud Abdel Sayed’s film Out of
the Ordinary that world premiered at the Dubai International Film Festival in 2014.
New Century collaborated with several superstars reintroducing them in new roles, such as Lebleba in the
family-comedy Mickey’s Family (2010) together with several young talents. In 2011, the company brought mega
stars Mahmoud Yassine and Lobna Abdel Aziz back to the big screen in the comedy film Gedo Habibi (My Beloved
Grandfather) starring young actress Bushra.

of audiences, including comedy box office hits, such as Captain Masr (2015), Kalb Balady (2016), Gahim Fel
Hend (2016), the crime- drama Torab Al Mass (Diamond Dust) (2018) and Money (2019). Recently, the company
finished the production of the upcoming sci-fi comedy film El Ghassala.
New Century achieved great successes with a number of important films addressing social issues, such as
Asmaa by director Amr Salama, which received critical acclaim and reaped 19 awards in several regional and
international film festivals. Asmaa was also rated 8.3 on IMDb by more than 1,000 users, which boosted it to
the second place among other Egyptian films listed on IMDb at the time. New Century also produced 678,
director Mohamed Diab’s first directorial venture. Released a few days before the 2011 Egyptian revolution,
the film turned out to be a huge success in Egypt. As for its overseas success, 678 was screened in 124
theaters across France selling 120 thousand tickets during its first two weeks marking the highest-grossing
Egyptian film ever released in France. The film was also released in Sweden, Norway, Brazil, Portugal and
Spain, which opened a new market for distributing Egyptian films in Europe.
